James now runs Shift Coaching & Development after previously working for News UK (formerly News International) home of The Times, Sunday Times and The Sun. He was responsible for introduced Internal Coaching at News UK. The first programme started in October 2012 and had up to 40 internal coaches working throughout the organisation.
The scheme received widespread acclaim, seeing him featured in industry magazines and invited to speak at national conferences, including the CIPD conference in 2014 and the Coaching at Work conference in 2016.
In his wider role James led the Talent, Learning and Development function, responsible for all people development activity across the business, including leadership development programmes and selection of external coaches.
As Founder of Shift, James coaches managers and leaders across a range of sectors. He also designs and delivers leadership development programmes, facilitates team events, as well as supporting organisations’ to introduce internal coaching capability.
In 2016 James completed a Masters level post-graduate certificate in Coaching from the University of Sussex and Roffey Park. His formal coaching education began in 2008, completing an accredited coaching programme with the Executive Coaching Consultancy.
In 2015, James completed a nine-month Certificate in Organisational Development with Roffey Park. He is also a licensed NLP Practitioner and is qualified to use a wide range of psychometric tools including Hogan, MBTI, 16PF and Quintax.
James is a member of the Association for Coaching and receives regular supervision for his coaching work.
Recent coaching clients include the CEO of a digital start-up, a board level Director from the Media and Telecoms industry, HR professionals from public and private sector organisations, senior Managers in the charity and financial services sectors.
